7 Cities, 7 Sunsets | Art of Saudade

“Every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn.”

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

There is something special about sunsets. Observing the sun setting comforts me. No matter where I go, the sun melting on the horizon brings me one message of hope: you are home.

One of my favorite hobbies is capturing these magical moments of the day. Here are my top 7 sunsets from 7 different cities around Europe:

Bordeaux, France

“One day,” you said to me, “I saw the sunset forty-four times!”

And a little later you added:
“You know – one loves the sunset, when one is so sad…”

“Were you so sad, then?” I asked, “on the day of the forty-four sunsets?”

But the little prince made no reply.”

― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

Sunsets are often associated with sadness and melancholy but personally, the fading of the sun and the evening breeze only help me find my inner peace.

One of the reasons why Bordeaux is worth visiting is because of its stunning sunset views. Find out what else you can do in the French city of wine and love:

Straelen, Germany

This small German town near the Dutch border will conquer your heart with its typical German lifestyle, architecture, and… amazing sunsets.

Marseille, France

No need to describe the charm of the south of France. One of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve seen was the sun melting behind the Marseille Cathedral. A feast for the eyes for photographers and wanderers.

Skopje, Macedonia

Surrounded by mountains, this Balkan city is a mix of cultures connected by the Stone Bridge, where you can admire the wonderful mountain and sunset views.

Montpellier, France

Mediterranean climate, Occitan culture and architecture, perfect sunsets near the sea and on the paved city square… what else could you ask for?

Carcassonne, France

This city will bring you back to medieval times and show you that it was much cooler than we thought it was. Forget about the Inquisition and all the barbarity when you see the sun setting along the fortress walls.

Warsaw, Poland

Warsaw’s sunset view is by far the most charming. The Old Town of Warsaw is the perfect spot to admire the combination of colors as the sun slowly sets.
