Best Things To Do In Montpellier, France | The Perfect 3-Day Trip | Art of Saudade

Montpellier is one of the cities you must see once you are in the south of France. This place has everything: whether you’re interested in culture, history, street art, local and international cuisine, nature, sports, or beaches, this vibrant city will find its way to attract and impress you!

Check out why Montpellier’s street art is so special:

Day 1 – The Culture Day

Musée Fabre

Montpellier’s best museum is located in the center of the city, close to the Place de la Comédie, and hides the most awe-inspiring artworks from different eras.

To celebrate the four hundredth anniversary of the birth of Molière, the Fabre Museum paid tribute to the famous playwright by presenting two works from the collections: The Man with Black Ribbons by Sébastien Bourdon and the Bust of Molière by Jean Antoine Houdon.

The Museum’s artworks include 1,800 paintings, more than 5,000 drawings, engravings and prints, 300 sculptures, and the list goes on… This is the perfect place to get inspired!

Lorenzo Bartolini, Vénus Couchée, 1820-1830

Pretty impressive, huh? Nevertheless, we all know that Montpellier’s best art is… on the streets:

Day 2 – Dive Into The Region’s History

Since the beginning of the 11th century, Montpellier is a stop on the Santiago di Compostela trail. Follow the pilgrims’ steps in the Rue de la Loge, from the Place de la Comédie to the Arc de Triomphe.

The city of the secret stairs hides more secrets than you can imagine. An underground bath was discovered under the floor of a cellar a couple of decades ago, hiding a medieval story of Montpellier’s Jewish community.

There is no shortage of old churches in Montpellier, such as the Montpellier Cathedral.

Day 3 – The Mediterranean Sea is calling!

Time for the ultra fun part: the sea. The best and cheapest way to reach the sea from the center is to take the tramway 3 – Étang De L’Or. Whether you arrive in the morning or in the evening, the view will be fabulous:

Don’t forget your macaron!

If you’re still in the mood to connect with nature, the Botanical Garden in Montpellier awaits you! Pablito, the local cat will be there to welcome you.
